Hello surf enthusiasts! Today, we are tackling a crucial question: should you wax your foam board (or softop)? Have you invested in this type of board, very popular in surf schools, but you don't know how to maintain it? Don't panic, Zeus is here to guide you! 😄
1. Need to wax your foam board?
In the majority of cases, you will not need to wax your foam board. For what ? Quite simply because these boards are generally covered with a non-slip EVA layer. Your feet will naturally adhere to the covering, even when wet. Practical, isn't it? 😉
2. Exceptions to the rule
However, there are a few exceptions:
- If you have a high-end foam board , a little wax may be necessary to optimize grip, especially if you surf in more powerful waves.
- -If you feel the need for better grip, no worries! A thin layer of classic wax will do the job perfectly.
At Zeus, we offer two types of construction for our Classic range foam boards: EVA and IXPE .
- EVA boards offer excellent grip thanks to their coating. You won't need to wax them!
- IXPE boards require the application of a thin layer of wax to ensure optimal adhesion.
4. The pad alternative
If you don't want to bother with wax, opt for a non-slip pad ! You can directly stick it on your foam board. No need to wax regularly, and you benefit from great grip. The best, right? 😄
5. Maintenance tips
To take care of your softop, follow these few tips :
- Avoid leaving your board in direct sunlight or in a hot car. The foam could delaminate. 😱
- If you decide to wax your board, a thin layer is enough . Don't add too much!
- The maintenance of a foam board is minimal compared to a polyester resin or eopxy board. Take advantage of this saved time to surf more! 😎
And don't hesitate to take a look at our Zeus foam boards , designed to give you an optimal and relaxed surfing experience! 😉
