Minimum length : 7 feet (7'0) to start.
Volume : choose a volume close to your weight (e.g. ~75 L for 80 kg).
Tip : The bigger the board, the more stable and easier it is to catch waves.

3. Select the material

Foam board (softboard) : provides stability, safety and tolerance for errors for beginners.
Composite/resin board : more efficient and responsive but requires a good technical level. Avoid for a first board.

4. Choose the shape

Longboard : maximum stability, ideal for learning the basics.
Funboard/Mini-Malibu : compromise between stability and maneuverability for smooth progress.
Shortboard : for experienced surfers looking for performance and responsiveness.
